Lecture on Imam 'Ali (A), Meaning of Isra wal-Mi'raj and the Lebanese Crisis

Lecture given on 10th August 2006 - 16th Rajab 1427 at the Cultural Centre of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Colombo Sri Lanka by Zulkifli Nazim

ربّ اشرحلي صدري ويسّرلي أمري واحلل عُقدة مّن لُّلساني يفقهو قولي

ÿ..قُل لاّ أﺳﺌلُكُم عليه أجرًا إلاّ الْمَوَدّةَ فِى الْقُرْبَى

My Dearest Brothers My Dearest Sisters and my Dearest Children –

السّلام عليكم و رحمةُ الله و بركا ته

Please permit me to hasten to thank the Director and Staff of the Cultural section of the Embassy of the Republic of Iran for providing me this opportunity to participate in such a noble and august function – The rememberance of Hazrath ‘Ali (A) in this very significant and Holy month of Rajab.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran .. ..

ÿ..قُل لاّ أﺳﺌلُكُم عليه أجرًا إلاّ الْمَوَدّةَ فِى الْقُرْبَى

Say: “No Reward do I ask of you for this – Except the love of those near of kin.” 42:23

Allah Says, Oh Prophet tell the people, that you do not ask for anything except The love for your family The Ahlal Bayth. – أهل ا لبيت

We are gathered here today, to remember a day of veneration, a day of devotion, the day in which The Commander of the Faithful – Amir-ul-Mu’mineen Hazrath ‘Ali (A) was born in the Sacred House – The Holy Ka’aba at Makkah – Thirty years after the Year of the Elephant on the 13^th of Rajab.

In fact, I have a task today, to present before you, in brief the life of the beacon of Islam, described in Arabic as أ سدُ الله الغالب The triumphant Lion of Allah

سيدنا عليِّ ابن أبي طالب (ع)

I say it is a task, because it is beyond my ability and strength and my powers of

comprehension and reasoning even to attempt to describe the exalted personality of ‘Ali (A) who gave a distinct outlook to the intellectual, social, cultural and political concepts of his times – which are, even as novel today as it was in those times.

Most of you may have heard various narrations of this magnificent personality in his various responsibilities – within this short period, I may be only suggesting a reminder – that is all:

The First House of Allah was rebuilt and renovated at the command of Allah Azzawajall by Ibrahim (A) assisted by his worthy successor, his son Isma’eel (A) under the supervision and guidance of the Angel – Gibreel (A):

2.127 وَإِذْ يَرْفَعُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْقَوَاعِدَ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ

رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

And remember Abraham and Isma`il raised the foundations of the House (with this

prayer): "Our Lord! accept (this service) from us for thou art the All-Hearing the All-Knowing. and again in 2:125

وَإِذْ جَعَلْنَا الْبَيْتَ مَثَابَةً لِلنَّاسِ وَأَمْنًا وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى وَعَهِدْنَا إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ أَنْ طَهِّرَا بَيْتِيَ لِلطَّائِفِينَ وَالْعَاكِفِينَ وَالرُّكَّعِ السُّجُودِ

And when We made the House (at Mecca) a resort for mankind and a sanctuary, (saying): Take as your place of prayer, the place, the station where Abraham stood (to pray). And We imposed a duty upon Abraham and Isma’eel, (saying): Purify My house for those who go around and those who meditate therein and those who bow down and prostrate themselves in prayer.

These verses clearly depicts the purpose of the Holy Ka’aba – that it was to be a place of worship and it is the most purest and most sacred of places.

It was to this Sacred and Purified place, the Holy Ka’aba that Providence led Fathima

binth Asad – the Holy Mother of Hazrath ‘Ali when she felt the intensive pangs of child-birth when ‘‘Ali (A) was due to be born.

At this moment unable to bear the pain, she knelt to pray. When she raised her head from her supplication, the wall of the Ka’aba split as if by a miracle, to admit her within.

She had to rush inside the Ka’aba as there was no other place and a portion of the wall returned to its normal position. The Ka’aba was sealed with Fathima binth Asad within its walls.

This news spread fast all over Makkah. The keys of the shrine were brought to unlock the door but all efforts ended in failure. On the third day of this happening, with awe the wonder-struck crowds surrounding the Ka’aba witnessed the lock falling of its own accord and – and to their amazement, Fathima emerged radiant from the sacred

premises, cheerfully, holding her new-born babe in her arms.

Muhummed (S) was waiting to receive her and her new-born child, and the first face that little ‘Ali saw in this world was the smiling face of the Apostle of Allah.

The superstitious Arabs of the times of Jahiliyyah, believed that every person -as he came into the world was touched by the devil, and that was why new-born babies cried at birth.

Since ‘‘Ali (A) was born in the sanctuary of Allah, to which the devil had no access, he did not cry at birth but was found smiling.

Muhummed (S) lovingly took the baby into his arms.

The first bath of ‘Ali as a baby was given by none other than our Holy Prophet Muhummed (S) with the prediction, that this baby would give him – Muhummed (S) – his last bath.

This prophecy was fulfilled at the death of our Holy Prophet Muhummed(S).

Mufassiroon describe ‘Ali (A) as a “priceless pearl in the shell of the Ka’aba” and a

“Sword in the Sheath of the House of Allah” and also as a “Lamp found in the abode

of Allah Shedding light all round.”

The birth of Hazrath ‘Ali inside the Ka’aba is Unique.

This is the only occasion on which a child was born within the precincts of the Holy Ka’aba ever since its foundation, thousands and thousands of years ago.

This in itself speaks volumes of such a personality as Hazrath ‘Ali (A).

Nobody before him or after him has ever been born in the House of Allah, the Most High – A Sign and a Mark – that ‘Ali (A) being honoured by Allah Azzawajall, may His name be Exalted, and of the position of Hazrath ‘Ali (A) being dignified and ennobled on this Profoundly honoured day.

I would like to use the words of our Holy Prophet and cite some of the reference – On

this Great personality - from – what we say “Sunni” sources – Hadith collections and Tafsirs - which are never spoken of and which have been subject to extreme suppression by a malicious few, who are trying to hold sway over the Ummah.

قال النبي (ص) : خلقت من شجرة واحدة أنا وعليّ

The Prophet (S) said, “We were created from the same tree, I and Ali (A).” Al-Tirmidhi, 13/178; Ibn Al-Maghazeli, 122; Asad Al-Ghaba, 4/26; Al-Riyadh Al-Nudhra, 2/216.

قال النبي (ص) : أمَرني ربي بسَدُّ الأبواب إلاّ باب عليّ

The Prophet (S) said, “My Lord commanded me to close all the doors except the door of Ali (A).” Al-Khasa’is of Al-Nisa’i, 13; Mustadrak Al-Sahihain of Al-Hakim Al-Nisabori, 3/125; Al-Tirmidhi, 13/173; Al-Bayhaqi, 7/65; Yanaabee Al-Mawda, 282; Musnad Ahmad, 4/369; Ibn Al-Maghazeli, 245; Yanaabee Al-Mawda, 126.

قال النبي (ص) : الصديقون ثلاثة : مؤمن آل ياسين ، ومؤمن فرعون ، وأفضلهم عليّ

The Prophet (S) said, “The truest believers are three: the believer during the time of Al Ya-Sin, the believer during the time of Pharaoh, and the best of all, Ali (A).” Al-Manaqib of Ahmad, 194, 239; Kenz Al-Omal, 5/31; Al-Jami of Al-Suyuti, 2/83; Ibn Al-Maghazeli, 245; Yanaabee Al-Mawda, 126.

قال النبي (ص) :

مَن سُرّ َهُ أن يُحَيَّا حياتي ، ويموت مماتي ، فل يَتَوَلَّ من بعدي عليّا

The Prophet (S) said, “The one who wants to live my life and die my death will attach himself to Ali (A).” Musnad of Ahmad, 5/94; Mustadrak Al-Sahihain of Al-Hakim Al-Nisabori, 3/128; Kenz Al-Omal, 6/217; Al-Tabarani.

قال النبي (ص) : لكلّ نبي وصي ووارث ووصيّي ووارثي عليّ

The Prophet (S) said, “Every prophet has an executor and inheritor, and my executor and inheritor is Ali (A).” Kenz Al-Omal, 6/158; Tarikh Baghdad of Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdadi, 11/173; Shawahid Al-Tanzil, 2/223; Yanaabee Al-Mawda, 94.

قال النبي (ص) : أعْلمَ ْ أمَّتِي من بَعدي عليّ

The Prophet (S) said, “The most knowledgeable person in my nation after me is Ali (A).” Manaqib Al-Imam Ali Ibn Abi TAlib (A) of Ibn Al-Maghazeli Al-Shafii.

قال النبي (ص) : أقضى أمتي عليّ

The Prophet (S) said, “The most judicious person in my nation is Ali (A).” Ibn Al-Maghazeli, 70; Arjah Al-MatAlib, 544.

قال النبي (ص) : أنا المنذر والهادي من بعدي عليّ

The Prophet (S) said, “I am the warner, and the guide after me is Ali (A).” Musnad Ahmad, 1/151; Al-Tirmidhi, 2/135; Al-Khasa’is of Al-Nisa’I, 20; Kenz Al-Omal, 1/247; Ibn Al-Maghazeli, 222.

قال النبي (ص) :

براءة من النار حبّ عليّ

The Prophet (S) said, “Exemption from the Hellfire comes with love for Ali (A).” Mustadrak Al-Sahihain of Al-Hakim Al-Nisabori, 2/241; Tarikh Baghdad of Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdadi, 6/851; Akhtab Khawarizm, 86; Ibn Al-Maghazeli, 90.

قال النبي (ص) : من كنت مولاه فعليّ مولاه

The Prophet (S) said, “Of whomever I was master, Ali (A) is his master.” Mustadrak Al-Sahihain of Al-Hakim Al-Nisabori, 3/129; Kenz Al-Omal, 6/157;

قال النبي (ص) : لم يكن لفاطمة كُفُؤ,لو لم يخلق الله عليّا

The Prophet (S) said, “There would not be one suited for Fathima if Allah had not created Ali (A).” ( كُفُؤْ - Means – match, well-qualified – competent and efficient, fit)

Since time is a premium and since I have to touch on another subject – the subject of the significance of Mi’raj I have given you just a very few of the pearls from the innumerable pearls from Rasoolullah (S) regarding Hazrath ‘Ali (A).

Now the second point of my talk – Isra wal Mi’raj.

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلاً مِّنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ لِنُرِيَهُ مِنْ آيَاتِنَا إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ البَصِيرُ {الإسراء/1}

Praise be to ِِِِِAllah who did take His servant on a journey by night - from the sacred mosque to the farthest mosque whose precincts We did bless in order that We may show him some of Our signs. For He is All-Hearing and All-Seeing.

Israa is the first leg of the transit from the Holy Ka’ba to Masjid Aqsa – Jerusalem, described as the furthest mosque and Mi’raj is the second leg of transit from Masjid-ul-Aqsa to Samawaathi ‘Ula – the heavens.

Mi'raj usually translated ascension is indeed metaphysical - something spiritual.

If you just think of it, it is mind boggling and transcends comprehension of all human minds. Goes beyond the understanding of all human intellect.

The Holy Quran – which specifies in detail, The Dheen - The complete way of life – The complete guidance until, eternity, the day of judgment - spells out and makes explicit, clear cut practical guidance in this verse of Mi’raj - Verse 1 of chapter 17:

Praise be to ِِِِِAllah who did take His servant on a journey by night - from the sacred mosque to the farthest mosque – The remote Mosque whose precincts We did bless in order that We may show him some of Our signs. For He is All-Hearing and All-Seeing.

This verse clarifies 2 points :

1. The Baithul Muqaddas : Al-Quds described as furthest mosque, the distant mosque, the remote mosque - why? and

2. This journey of the Prophet (S) in described in two stages – From the Sacred Mosque (Masjidul Haraam) to Al-Quds (Isra) and then from Al-Quds to the heavens (Mi'raj). – Why the detour?

Why is it called the distant mosque, furthest mosque – The Remote Mosque ?

If you look at the Geographical location of Al-Quds – you will see Muslims all around it.

Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and most of the North African countries -They are not distant in mileage from Muslims:

There are 2 reasons for this:

1: Al-Quds: symbol of all prophets symbol of what they stood for, strived for and

struggled for. For what?

1. establishment of the rule of Allah, the Sovereignty of Allah on earth.

2. did not take anybody as protectors except Allah –

Moosa (A) did not succumb to Pharoah, Ibrahim (A) never subjugated him to Namrud, And The Holy Prophet (S) never ever succumbed to the Qureish.

3. The always spoke the truth, They kept their promises, they never, ever betrayed their trusts, slander or backbiting – speaking ill of others behind their backs was never even heard of – they never indulge in backbiting:

They were recklessly determined in the Establishment of Justice even if it be against themselves or their kith or even against the rich or poor, prince or pauper.

They were never vying for name, fame, power, position or wealth:

They were determined in earning the lawful way, They were extremely charitable.

If you just look at the Muslim Ummah in general, the so-called rulers of Muslim countries, you would see practically every one of them have taken as their masters, people whom they think, are powerful – the so-called Superpowers and other powerful people. They are diametrically opposite to what the Prophets stood for, what Islam stands for; In spite of the fact that the Holy Quran very specifically addresses man as:

مَثَلُ الَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ أَوْلِيَاء كَمَثَلِ الْعَنكَبُوتِ اتَّخَذَتْ بَيْتًا وَإِنَّ أَوْهَنَ الْبُيُوتِ لَبَيْتُ الْعَنكَبُوتِ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ {العنكبوت/41}

The parable of those who take anybody or anyone as their protectors or guardians other Allah is as the parable of the spider that makes for itself a house – that spins for itself a web;

And Allah now grinds it into us saying:

and most surely – most certainly the frailest of houses – the most flimsiest of houses is

the house of the spider if they but know. {The Spider/41}

So seeking protection or taking as guardians and protectors other than Allah is like seeking protection behind a spiders web. Is there any protection?

Even the majority of the ‘Ulama – so-called religious scholars – are in the pay of some countries and institutions – whom they have taken as their guardians and protectors – Hiding behind a spiders web –

And their duty is to create mischief among the Ummah – create a variety of Islam – moving people away from the truth. The variety is as a result of falsehood – which is innumerable whereas Truth is only ONE – And Allah is Haqq – The Truth. THE ONE AND ONLY.

So you can see that we – the Muslim Ummah - have moved away and distanced ourselves from what the Prophets (Alaihis Salaathu Wassalaam) stood for –

Hence - Al-Quds remains a distant mosque to us.

The Second reason is : Al-Quds is now within the domain of the Yahud and Nasarah and

Within the control of all the powers hostile to Islam and Muslims

There is no access for the Muslims and hence remains a distant mosque.

So Al-Quds stands as a symbol for all time – which shows the state of the Muslim Ummah at any particular point in time – Al-Quds stands as a symbol showing a snap-shot of the Ummah at any particular time.

When Al-Quds comes within the control of the Muslim Ummah, then you will know that the Muslims are in total submission to the Will of Allah and the Muslims are really in an Islamic, Spiritual state and would have been the symbol of prophets.

When Al-Quds is in the hands of the enemy you will know that the Muslims are in a deplorable, unfortunate and condemnable state.

Let us now look at the - The reason for the detour – that is instead of going direct from Masjidul Haraam to the Samaawathil Ula – why was the detour via Al-Quds ?

We ask the question, Why are the Yahud and Nasara holding onto Al-Quds ?

And why are they using their media – using every form of trickery -lying, falsehood, deceit and every type of false pretexts to hold onto Al-Quds?

Their saying : Muslims have Makkah and Madina.

Christians have Rome - Why not Jerusalem for the Jews. ?

They are trying to make this an issue of ownership and issue of Real Estate.

Sounds a reasonable argument.

But it is not the question of ownership or real estate in so far as Muslims are concerned.

It is the question of a covenant we have made with Allah Azzawajall.

This is an agreement between Allah and his Prophets and their respective Followers – the Ummah - in which Allah makes certain promises and requires certain behavior from them in return – And it is very very clear that the Hostile Jews or the Christians – Nasara have not kept to those promises.

This contention is proved by The Holy Prophet (S) leading the prayer in respect of all previous Prophets (Alaihis Salaathu Wassalaam) – at Baithul Muqaddhas -

Proving to the world and the universe at large that we are a people not racial – we are people who do not show any difference between any of the people of the previous Prophets (Alaihis Salaathu Wassalaam).

We are a people who are in total submission to the will of Allah.

And we are a people who can centralise this authority of unity with all religions bringing about unity, harmony, peace and prosperity, to the world - via Al-Quds.

The Greedy worldly – Satanic powers will never allow this.

Because peace, prosperity and unity will prevail and it is alien to what they want.

And if that happens their falsehood, deceptions, deceit and fraudulence – their treachery - Their arrogance, tyranny, oppression, suppression and their atrocities will be exposed.

You can see how they mobilize their secret services, the MI5 of the British, the CIA – Mossad and a whole heap of other unheard of organizations are hell bent on creating chaos in the world – so that they can rule with all the negative attributes.

In the 20^th Century, Turkey stands as an example. Turkey was the Only Caliphate that remained in the Muslim world. Their main aim was to destroy even this Caliphate and they did everything in their power to destroy it and destroy they did - and established a puppet – Mustapha Kamal Ataturk – who was totally responsible for the eradication of the Arabic Script in Turkey and used the Latin script – a transliteration of The Turkish language using English alphabets.

His hypocrisy and his allegiance to Satanic powers together with Abdul Aziz bin Saud of Arabia still stands as a legend of the manifestations of Evil – The Thaghooth.

Why were they so successful? Again the problem was they managed to sow discord, disunity, dissensions, and disagreements within the Muslim Ummah not just in the Middle East but in the whole world.

The Muslims of the world began to take as their guides and protectors the Satanic Powers.

They targeted the Islamic Scholars who were well-respected in the community and gave them everything what they wanted and today the state of the Ummah is really Pathetic, miserable and stands in a wretched and pitiable condition.

Al-Quds : standing as the distant mosque.

In the words of the Holy Quran it is imperative that we take action to liberate Al-Quds. How is it possible ?

Firstly adopting a policy of Jehad – meaning that you should struggle and strive.

Struggling and striving is first done against the baser-self - struggle against your carnal desires, Fight the slavery of oneself to the unislamic demands and dictates of family, society and everything around you.

Struggle against getting name, fame, power, position at all costs.

Once you have done this – automatically you will feel the strength of Allah and the Strength of a united Muslim Ummah - Then and only then you adopt “Qithaal” meaning war-fare for the liberation of Al-Quds.

This is a duty incumbent on all Muslims striving to get closer to the prophets –

Closer to Al-Quds.

Hence the symbolical journey of the Prophet (S) to the heavens via Al-Quds.

do you want peace? prosperity? tranquility and serenity and security - both here and the hereafter ?

Then your way to such a goal is via Al-Quds.

You have to reach the heavens by using a detour via Al-Quds.

This is the meaning of “Isra wal Mi'raj” - Wallahu 'aulam.

The talk will not be complete if we do not speak about what is happening in Lebanon.

وَمَا لَكُمْ لا تُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَالْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَاءِ وَالْوِلْدَانِ الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْ هَذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ الظَّالِمِ أَهْلُهَا وَاجْعَل لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ وَلِيًّا وَاجْعَل لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ نَصِيرًا

4.75 And why should ye not fight in the cause of Allah and of those who, being weak, are ill-treated (and oppressed)?- Men, women, and children, whose cry is: "Our Lord! Rescue us from this town, whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from thee one who will protect; and raise for us from thee one who will help!"

الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ الطَّاغُوتِ فَقَاتِلُوا أَوْلِيَاءَ الشَّيْطَانِ إِنَّ كَيْدَ الشَّيْطَانِ كَانَ ضَعِيفًا

4.76 Those who believe - fight in the cause of Allah, and those who reject Faith –

Thaghooth – the manifestations of Evil - Fight in the cause of Evil: So fight ye against

the friends of Satan: feeble indeed is the cunning of Satan.

The Holy Quran imposes a duty on us, the Muslim Ummah to fight against those who support evil – it does not matter whether it be against the rulers of Arabia, the house of

Saud, or Jordan, Egypt, or whatever or whoever.

Lebanon, today is being systematically destroyed – It is nearly a month and our Hizbullah brothers and sisters and children a standing up fighting a very disciplined battle. When in 1967 June, it took only 6 days for the Egyptian Military to be destroyed by the Zionist enemy.

Hizbullah disciplined themselves first and they entered the field for the liberation of not only Lebanon – it will also turn out to be a liberation of Al-Quds and Liberation of

other Muslim lands by the maggot puppets who are ruling them.

They learnt this discipline from the People of the Islamic Republic of Iran – who

withstood every form of treachery, aggression, oppression and atrocities not only from the entire world hostile to Islam, but also – from the hypocrites in the so called world of Islam – financed and pressurized, chiefly by the maggot rulers of Saudi Arabia to

drive a wedge into the Islamic Ummah.

The dirtiest little secret in the Middle East - is - Saudi Arabia's role in enabling American and Israeli aggression against the native people of the region.

The secret agenda of the ruling clan in Riyadh has always revolved around maintaining a permanent romance with her American knight in shining armor."

Lebanon has been struck once again, with another premeditated Israeli atrocity.

The horrifying images beamed around the world were in great part manufactured by chimpanzee George Bush and his piano-playing dunce in a red dress - Anaconda – Leeza Rice. Take a lock of hair from each murdered and disfigured Lebanese child and send it to this barren maggot of a spinster with a cult like infatuation for Israel's violent streak and facilitating the slaughter of the innocent children of innocent mothers -

Just last year, the Bush administration was hitching a free ride on the back of the democratic Lebanese uprising that followed the assassination of Prime Minister Hariri. Today, they are providing aid, assistance and moral comfort to the Israeli terrorists, who are systematically carpet bombing the country that Hariri dedicated his life to rebuilding.

Fearless writers have openly said:

“The political elite in Washington continue to be mercilessly indifferent to the loss of Lebanese and Palestinian life. If a state has a racist foreign policy - you can be certain

that it is owned and operated by certifiably psychotic bigots.”

And who is assisting them – The mentally deranged House of Saud in Riyadh - which has always revolved around maintaining a permanent romance with her American knight in shining armor.

To prove the depth of her passion, the lovesick Saudi puppy is even willing to

collaborate with America's other mistress - Israel.

Zionist Israel, on the other hand, is the kind of mistress that takes as much and gives as little as suits her fancy.

She knows that the President and Congress of the United States are at her beck and call.
