Hazrat Mu’az-b-Jabal said: I heard the Prophet (S) say: “Allah created seven Angels before He created seven heavens and the earth and placed one angel as guard at each heaven.
The angel who presents actions – raises up men’s actions from morning to evening. When this angel reaches the first heaven with a man’s actions, the guard of this heaven says to him:
“I am the one who examines back-biting. My lord has ordered me not to send up those good actions of a man which he has acquired by speaking ill of each other behind their backs. Then the angel will leave behind those actions he had earned as a result of back biting and takes the rest of his good actions to the second heaven.
The guard at the second heaven says to him: “My Lord has prohibited me to allow those actions to go above the second heaven – actions which have been done for worldly purposes. Worldly gains.”
THE ANGEL then leaves these actions and takes the rest upwards.
The guard at the third heaven says to the angel: “I am the angel of pride. My Lord has ordered me not to allow such actions as were done with pride upwards, because he took boast of some divine services in the assembly of men.” The angel then leaves such actions and takes the rest towards the fourth heaven.
The guard of the 4th heaven says to him. “I am the angel of self-praise. My Lord has prohibited me to allow such actions to go above the 4th heaven – actions done with self-praise.”
Then the angel leaves those actions and takes the rest towards the 5th Heaven.
The guard of the 5th Heaven says to this angel: ‘I am the angel of hatred. I have been ordered by My Lord not to allow those actions of men to go higher,
where such actions were done with hatred.” Then he leaves those actions and takes the rest towards the 6th Heaven.
The guard of the 6th Heaven says to the angel – “I am the angel of kindness. My Lord ordered me not to allow such actions of a man going upwards, the man who did not show kindness to My servants when they fell in dangers and calamities.” Then the angel leaves those actions behind and takes the rest towards the 7th Heaven.
The guard of the 7th Heaven says to the angel: My Lord ordered me not to allow any actions above this heaven – actions as were not done to please Him. Actions that were not done for His sake, but for name and fame and show.” Then this angel leaves those actions which were done for name, fame, power, position and show and takes the rest towards the present of Allah.
And Allah (Jalla Jalaa luhu) says:
“You are presenting the actions of My servants. I am the guard of man’s heart. I know that some of these actions were not done to please Me. So My curse is upon him. The angels also curse him and the seven heavens and their angels also curse him.
